Zucchini (scientific name: Cucurbita pepo), known as "翠玉瓜" (emerald gourd) in Hong Kong and "栉瓜" (zhi gourd) in Taiwan, is also referred to as summer squash. It is a cultivated variety of the American pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo), and its fruit is edible. A distinctive feature of zucchini is that the cut surface at the top, originally connected to the stem, has a star-shaped appearance.
