Bell pepper (scientific name: Capsicum annuum var. grossum), known as "lantern pepper" in Hong Kong and "sweet pepper" in Taiwan, is a variety of the Capsicum genus in the Solanaceae family. In Taiwanese, it is referred to as "tai-tong-á." Due to its diverse colors, it is also called "color pepper." Its rounded shape, which is distinct from pointed peppers, gives it the alternate name "round pepper." Additionally, because its shape resembles that of a lantern and persimmon, it is also known as "lantern pepper" or "persimmon pepper."
